My Rights
Under the terms of the FCRA, credit reporting agencies cannot retain negative or false information for an undue length of time. The reporting agencies have to act in a timely manner and correct false information. The process of them removing negative or false credit inquiries depends on the credit agencies being alerted that negative information is being requested and we are seeking verification. If you provide evidence that your identity was stolen, a debt was paid off, a late payment was so long ago that it is no longer legal to remain placed on your report then the agencies have to remove your negative status. Credit reporting agencies are required to rectify the information on your account as they are alerted and proof is supplied of your true and accurate status.
If, for some reason, this information is again added to your credit history, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion are required to notify you and again and when we provide the disputes once again, the credit reporting agencies will be forced to remove the claim until the dispute is rectified. This is important since misinformation often happens.
